About Us

The SI Portland North club (SIPN) was chartered in 1976 with 19 businesswomen from the North Portland area by the SI Portland club. SIPN is in District 2 of the Northwest Region of Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc. SIPN is one of 7 clubs in the Metro / SW Washington area. Others include: SI Portland, SI Portland East, SI Gresham, SI Hillsboro, SI Vancouver, and SI SW Washington.

Each club concentrates on local area needs, while working together in collaboration for much larger projects. Clubs support each other in fund raising projects. Current membership is 17.

SI Portland North supports the Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA) Woman of Opportunity Award (WOO). WOO offers grants to mature women for education, training or re-training to enable them to upgrade their job status or reenter the workforce. In addition we support the Violet Richardson Award. The Violet Richardson Award gives cash awards to high school women who exhibit outstanding citizenship.

SI Portland North's service projects have included:

• Children's Relief Nursery
• Roosevelt High School
• Good Samaritan Food Bank
• North Portland Health Clinic

The club donated over $12,000 to the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon.

There are two established Friendship Links: Skien/Porsgrunn, Norway, and Toyama, Japan. Friendship Links offer a unique opportunity to share experiences with other clubs from around the world to promote peace, international goodwill and understanding. SIPN has hosted members of the Toyama club, and some members of the club visited Toyama for their 25th anniversary.

Club members may attend two conventions: District 2 Meeting and Region Convention. These meetings offer a wide variety of informative workshops and allows time to share successful projects with other clubs in the Region.
